Violence Prevention

These workshops will introduce elementary and middle school students to the Omega Prevention Model, a proven model of violence prevention. By this method, children learn prevention skills based on the concept that violence is a disease, which can be avoided and treated effectively. Emphasis is placed on preventing gang and gun violence and on promoting good anger management skills. The workshop series is 4 weeks, meeting two days a week for 45 minutes. School counselors will refer students to this program. Click here to return to home page.

Parents as mentors

The OCS Parents as Mentors Program has it's roots in traditional African-American culture - a culture that emphasizes the roles of elders as teachers; the centrality of the extended family; the value of achievement and education; and a sense that an individuals behavior does indeed reflect on the group. These core values are communicated during the ten hours of workshops. Targeted participants for the workshops are parents of students selected for the VP workshops and PTA leaders. Workshops will be held at the OCS Headquarters. Parents whom complete the program will receive framed certificates during the public graduation program at their child's school.
